With the recent post about HDR (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=43983871) I turned on HDR on my computer. I very rarely use it, but I noticed that the background color changed here. I had previously associated the background color as a "light orange". I had to ask ChatGPT to describe the color because it wasn't anywhere near the same, and at first I thought the site was changing the color if HDR was enabled:
> The color #f6f6ef is a very light, soft off-white with a slight warm, yellow-gray tint.
But in HDR? It completely loses its yellow tint. Instead, it looks more like a pleasant shade of gray.
My monitor is properly calibrated (I went off on a tangent with this several years ago), but I don't use HDR day-to-day; just when gaming or working on photos. This is my first time noticing this subtle difference.
Can anyone verify this happens to them as well? Or explain this phenomenon?
