I don't have kids and I'm not an anthropologist, but I would guess this also happens because parents look for a way to keep their children engaged with something that doesn't require their constant supervision. Instead of having a kid asking you to tell stories or talk together, you just hand them a phone or tablet and let them play games for hours.

A better question would be to ask how technology companies are helping parents in the very hard and difficult job of raising their children, and also what measures they are taking to ensure they don't add any difficulties.

What incentive would a tech company have to help with that?

Parents complaining to government, and government enacting consumer protection laws.

The consumers are tapped out cash wise (you can see it in Netflix, Disney and every other large Studios reporting to Wall St).

So consumers are not even paying for the never ending flow of sewage into kids brains. Yet it flows in larger and larger quantities. Why?

Cause Corporations still need to get noticed.

Thats all you need to think about.

Its like Colonial times where instead of European powers killing each other and the natives over Land, today's Corporations (and the political puppets they prop up) are fighting furiously for ever shrinking Attention.

As Herbert Simon said eons ago - when Info explodes Attention Wars to the death begin.

You have Amazon funding/bundling content to promote their store. You have ATT/Comcast/Apple funding/bundling content to sell their network/phones. You have Google/Facebook/TikTok/Twitter making content free just so Advertisors(ie Corporations again) can get noticed. Its all about how to do we get Corporations noticed.

So they are all trapped in a war for ever shrinking Attention.They have to keep funding and churning out more and more hyper stimulating, novel and absurd shit to get noticed. So basically every studio, content production shop, the artists, the musicians, the animators, the gaming and visual effects folk are all just used as front line troops in the Attention Wars. They think what they do is for the consumer. But in reality they have been turned into an Attention Capture Army for Corporations. And the kids are just the unarmed natives getting over run every day.

So if you want to know when this ends - we already have a precedent - just ask yourself when and why Colonialism ended.

Assigning blame isn’t going to solve the problem.
