Mozilla Launching a Public Voice Dataset (commonvoice.mozilla.org)

The title is editorialized, Mozilla Common Voice has been around since at least 2019, which was the year of the first dataset release, and they've been making releases ever since at https://commonvoice.mozilla.org/en/datasets

There's nothing being launched here that I can tell, it's been around for years and it's continuing to exist

Agree, should have had (2018) in it title (that's the year of the oldest file in the GitHub repo

I suspect it's an accident/unintentional by Mozilla but it's kind of odd how it's written with literally no mention of project start/history (besides ONE mention of some action in 2022, when it was already 4 years old)

I get that this happens with online articles trying to give a sense of being "current" but this is a little strange here.

Can they please concentrate their efforts on making Firefox not go extinct? I don’t want Google to take over the internet.

Common Voice is part of the Mozilla Foundation, not the Mozilla Corporation responsible for shipping Firefox. I.e. what donations to Mozilla actually go towards.

I wish Google would release their Goog-411 phoneme database or donate it to Common Voice.
