Avoid Temptation (might.net)

A good article that reiterates the importance of building positive habits to improve one's own life experience, over thinking that dramatic escape will change your life.

You can't be tempted by chocolate if you don't have chocolate in your house. Can't buy chocolate if you get into the habit of avoiding that aisle when shopping.

Also works in reverse: I recently started a new job within cycling distance, and by design my subconscious route to and from work takes me past the gym. It's easier to keep going to the gym when you're there anyway, every day.

Nothing really new but I find that reading things like this and reflecting on them can still be very helpful.

I skimmed through the other posts and I find a lot of them relevant and helpful (+ I sort of like the author’s site and writing style)

Agree, the concept is very basic but that doesn't mean it isn't useful. Sometimes dealing with temptations can feel very complicated so reducing in this way to fields can be helpful.

I use a timelock safe to pre-commit and increase my distance. Can't game on my linux sd hard drive, (or really choose not to debug it..), so I lock up my windows drive until Friday. Same with alcohol.

I really appreciate seeing articles about procrastination/willpower by very successful people.

Thanks Matt!
