This is a bit of a pet peeve of mine, but arguably a lot of stuff in pico-playground or pico-extras is not finished and left as exercise for the reader. This is fine if you already know what you are doing but not so much when it's marketed as 'baby's first uC'.

Yes, and the wording implies that as they mature they would be merged into the SDK. Yet 18 months after release there was nothing done save for some minor janitorial fixes. Not to mention the lack of any sort of documentation.
