Ohanian Says Play-to-Earn Crypto Games Will Be 90% of Gaming Market in 5 Years (gamespot.com)

"In five years, you will actually value your time properly, and instead of being harvested for advertisements, or being fleeced for dollars to buy stupid hammers you don't actually own, you will be playing some on-chain equivalent game that will be just as fun, but you'll actually earn value and you will be the harvester."

You can slave away in the virtual mine for cryptocurrecy pennies while the game owners get gas fees.

Sounds dystopian to me.

Not disagreeing, but look at where we are now.

Is the quote more dystopian than being able to slave away in front of in-game slot machines (loot boxes) or fleeced by micro transactions?

You are delusional if you think they won't follow their proven business strategy just because the "coin" gets a new name.

a) Never said they would b) Same question as before, how is it more dystopian than what we have now?

Well, throw in all the additional climate concerns of a crypto economy on top of the current flaws of gaming, for one

Ah yes, its more of the same so let's just keep doing that because its been... Good?

How about let's not

Yes, it is a dystopia. If you try to do anything but play this game, the cryptocommissars will find you and put you to work in the bitcoin mines.

Your mind worn from hash calculations, your ego in tatters knowing you are but a poor emulation of a specialized ASIC device, you beg for mercy.

Great Ruler Ohanian looks down at you and says “No”.

"90% of people will not play a game unless they are being properly valued for that time"

I thought entertainment/enjoyment was the value you were supposed to get for playing games. If not then are they really games?

Perhaps instead of showing advertising, they’ll mine coin as you pay, and you’ll get 10% of the stake?

I've got a mobile game industry to show you...

I wish I could bet on this not being true.

Rich person with no experience in industry says something silly about industry, news at 11.

I mean, why did they even publish this?

As someone that’s a fan of the idea of P2E gaming 90% is a ridiculous number unless the CS:GO’s and Fortnites of the world mane all of their in-game items NFTs

The psychological “overjustification effect” would seem to suggest otherwise. Hard to keep up the ecosystem when the money saps all the fun yet doesn’t even hit minimum wage.
