So why didn't you quit? It's not like the job market has been massively hot or anything for the past three years. I've seen people run into similar (not to the same extreme) issues at various employers over the years, and the answer is "ok", as you hop back into the interview pool and then shortly give your two weeks.

just to play the devil's advocate - the person from the website has to look after his sick wife. Quitting, and looking for another job, while having to do so, is probably going to be harder than asking for leave from an employer.

If you meant, why didn't he quite earlier, before the wife's illness - i would presume that atlassian is the best option he had at the time, and that's why he didn't quit!


Counterpoint: It's not like holding down a shitty job is preventing you from job hunting. Find another gig, give your two weeks, start the new gig on monday, make sure your new insurance plan is up to snuff before you give your notice.
