I checked the original list [1] and it's a fun read; however the following is absolutely true in my experience:

You can probably replace the 0 with any digit, and it will remain true.


I just run super alpha quality software all the time so that the “.0” release seems like a breath of fresh air in comparison.

yeah, I'd be curious to see what a distribution of "time until first confirmed bug / next bugfix release" looks like. I strongly suspect the .0 versions don't last long in the vast majority of cases.

It may not be a True Fact, but it's not used that way. It's a reliable heuristic, nothing more.


For OS X the .3 release seems to be the sweet spot.
